Perhaps it may come as a shock to those who think the party of Reagan is still essentially the same as it used to be. Politico is reporting that George HW Bush is not voting for Donald Trump. Maybe it was the way Trump went after Jeb in the primaries. But clearly, the times they are a’ changin’.
For the true faithful, there’s always a chance he still might be casting his vote for Donald – after all, he was talking with a Kennedy. And his “official stance” is, “no comment.” But considering that Barbara Bush said she didn’t know how any woman could vote for Trump, along with the many other former Republican officials who are supporting Hillary, it seems Trump isn’t the choice of the elder party members.
Maybe it’s just the fact that Trump and his campaign have been so divisive, almost more than any in recent memory. Only last Friday did he relent on the idea that President Obama was born in the U.S. – a topic he long held on to, whether for its attention-getting value or not. He has spoken out again since the bombings in New York City against immigrants and the freedom of expression. It seems there isn’t a kind of voter he isn’t willing to alienate, depending on which of his remarks you believe.
